Terms & auction rules
Version October 10, 2026. Jed’s Marathon Auction is run by Jed Heald (James Heald) personally to raise money for his NYC Marathon fundraising page; it is not operated by MSK or Fred’s Team.
Participation and bids
Signing in with a one-time code sent to your US mobile number and choosing a public display name are required to add a lot, bid, or comment. Text alerts are optional and are never a condition of bidding. People adding lots must accurately describe what they can provide and have the rights to any uploaded content. Illegal, unsafe, regulated, discriminatory, or infringing lots are prohibited.
The opening bid is at least $5. Each later bid is exactly $5 higher than the current leader. You cannot bid on your own lot or against your own leading bid. A confirmed bid is a commitment to donate the winning amount if you win.
Closing
Each lot displays its closing time. A valid bid in its final two minutes extends that lot to two minutes after the bid. The database clock controls closing. Bids after closing are rejected.
Anonymity and moderation
Anonymous bids are public as “Anonymous”; Jed can see the bidder’s identity. Comments are public. Optional private outbid notes are reviewed before being included in an alert and are subject to recipient consent and blocking. Jed may remove content, cancel lots, or void invalid bids, with an audit record. If a winning bid is voided, the next valid bidder may be offered the lot.
Payment and fulfillment
Winners donate through the official fundraising link within 7 days and submit their confirmation for verification. The site does not process donations. The person who added the lot supplies it according to its stated instructions. Contact Jed about non-payment, inaccurate descriptions, fulfillment problems, or disputes. Tax deductibility is not promised; consult the beneficiary’s receipt and your own adviser.
